Yorkshire Tea is a signature brand produced by Taylors of Harrogate (now under the Bettys & Taylors Group), rooted in a family-owned business tradition dating back to 1886. What started as a regional blend eventually grew into a national icon in the UK, with the first Yorkshire Tea blend introduced in the late 1970s.

From its earliest days, the brand has emphasized doing things “properly” — obsessing over sourcing, blending, tasting, and packaging so every cup meets a consistent standard. Tea buyers at the company sample thousands of teas, and the final blend is tested multiple times (sometimes up to eight checks) en route to market. The blend draws from tea gardens in India, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Rwanda, layering complementary teas to achieve balance in flavour and body.

Yorkshire Tea has worked hard to align its identity with values of fairness, sustainability and ethical trade. It invests in long-term relationships with growers, engages in environmental initiatives, and participates in carbon-neutral programs through its parent company.

Today Yorkshire Tea stands as one of the UK’s most beloved tea brands. In 2019 it overtook competitors like PG Tips and Tetley to become the top-selling traditional black tea in Britain. The brand’s marketing leans heavily on regional pride, authenticity, and the idea that a proper brew cannot be rushed. Whether through ad campaigns invoking Yorkshire character or through product innovation, the brand continues to position itself at the intersection of heritage, quality and everyday ritual.
